Case Study: Return to the Jelly Bean Factory
Case Study: Return to the Jelly bean factory
Returning to the Jelly bean factory scenario used in the Module 5 case. Assume that changes were made in the production line and you are going to analyze the results in order to understand if the production line change experiment improved results. Days 1-3 are pre-experiment data, and Day 4 data is the result after changes were made to the production line. Now that you have the data from the experiment, you want the answers to the following questions below.
Note again that the data set is large but well within the capabilities of the data analysis toolpak in Excel. You may also take a random sample of each batch to produce a smaller data set that is more manageable to work with.
- Are there differences in yield (total jelly beans rated as “good”) before and after the production line changes? If so, are the differences significant?
- Are there differences in overall performance before and after the production line changes? If so, are the differences significant?
- If differences do exist, what, in your view is causing them?
- Is the Day 4 production run significantly different from Days 1-3?
Bonus question: Are there differences between batches? If so, are they significant?
